About Magnus

Philosophy

Magnus is a unique functional improvement training center, whereby individuals can learn insights through sophisticated scientific tests about their physical and mental capabilities. Through this understanding have individualized specific training protocols developed to enhance and expand one’s human potential.

Why Magnus?

There are few facilities in the world like Magnus and these existing facilities are either based inside research hospitals or cater only to professional athletes, both of which are outside the reach of the general public. Magnus is the brainchild of Gordon Uehling whose vision was to combine the latest, science-based physical and mental training together with cutting edge technology and make it available to the general consumer who is interested in reaching his/her potential no matter his/her age, field of endeavor or health and fitness goals.

Magnus offers an approach for the athlete to train for both athletic demands. The complete athlete package is a 90 minute session comprising of both mental toughness training and physical fitness training. The athlete will spend 45 minutes on strength and conditioning with a fitness coach working on the physical demands for their sport and then 45 minutes on mental toughness training working on the mental demands that come with competition.

SCIENCE

HEART RATE VARIABILITY
What makes us different than a typical fitness facility is the scientific approach we take to evaluate the athletes the body to get an understanding as to where they truly are. The heart rate variability(HRV) is a physiological phenomenon that measures variations beat to beat (also known as R-R variation). Most people can understand this by thinking of an ECG and focusing on the top spike (this is known as the R point in the QRS complex of a heart beat). Heart rate variability measures the variation from the point of one R point to another. Scientific studies have shown that a high HRV is linked to a high level of fitness and quality of health while a low HRV is linked to stress, fatigue and illness. At Magnus, we use this science to evaluate the condition of our athletes/clients in order to ensure that proper improvements are being made without the risk of overtraining or injury. This allows our trainers to have an objective response as towards how the individual is feeling as oppose to a subjective one (such as a verbal response).
HEART RATE VARIABILITY
BODY COMPOSITION
Body Composition: Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is a commonly used method for estimating body composition, and in particular body fat. BIA`{`1`}` actually determines the electrical impedance, or opposition to the flow of an electric current through body tissues which can then be used to calculate an estimate of total body water (TBW). TBW can be used to estimate fat-free body mass and, by difference with body weight, body fat.
BODY COMPOSITION
OPTOGAIT
The Gait analysis is the study of human locomotion, using the eye and the brain of observers, augmented by instrumentation for measuring body movements, body mechanics, and the activity of the muscles. Gait analysis is used to assess, plan, and treat individuals with conditions affecting their ability to walk. It is also commonly used in sports to help athletes run more efficiently and to identify posture-related or movement-related problems in people with injuries.

By acquiring the fundamental parameters of their patient’s gait, OPTOGAIT allows physical therapists, doctors, and researchers to quantitatively measure underlying mechanical inefficiencies and target any problematic areas. With this information, they can develop the right exercises to properly address the patient’s specific needs.

Athlete of the month

Every month all of the Magnus Fitness Coaches at TRC will choose an athlete from Courtsense Super Groups who has exemplified excellence during fitness rotations in the following three behaviors:
Attendance – athlete is present in every sense of the word and is prepared to train without hesitation or delay
Effort – athlete vigorously attempts each physical challenge; determined to succeed in spite of the outcome of previous attempts
Performance – only muscle failure prevents this athlete from carrying out or accomplishing a physical challenge

Magnus Athlete of the Month knows nothing about an “off day”. Fitness Coaches consider each athlete’s behavior in fitness throughout the entire month. .
