ROGER TURNER NASM CPT While professionally as dancer for more than 10 years, Roger was trained in multiple dance disciplines: Ballet, Modern, Dunham, Graham, Horton, Middle-Eastern Dance and West-African Dance. Roger’s dance experience led him to become a Teaching-Artist. Working with organizations like Center for Modern Dance Education, Young Audiences New York, Young Audiences New Jersey, Art Horizons, New Jersey City University, and more, Roger has taught every age group from toddlers to senior citizens. As well as, taught every ability from autistic, deaf, paraplegic to athletically advanced dance students. Through the years, Roger gained a passion for fitness and later turned that passion into a career. After becoming a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, Roger started working for the Glenpointe Spa and Fitness (Teaneck, NJ). There he combined his fitness knowledge, his dance experience, and military experience (US Army) and taught group exercise class (World Rhythm and Military Pump). Roger has been expanding his fitness knowledge and perfecting his train technique with Magnus since 2012. PHIL YOSS NSCA CPT Phil is a Level 1 Fitness Coach with Magnus Sports Performance. He earned his certification for personal training through the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA). He has been working in fitness for the past 2 years. His passion for fitness is combined with his experience as a high school teacher and youth swim coach for an ideal situation here at magnus. Phil enjoys empowering athletes through encouraging them to give their all in workouts. Having never had any success come easy Phil understands the necessity of hard work over the long term. This gives him the unique ability to assist athletes in understanding the long-term process and commitment necessary for improvement and high-level achievement. Phil got his undergraduate degree in psychology with a minor in philosophy in 2014 from Hartwick College. Phil’s journey with fitness began over fifteen years ago with his introduction to running and swimming. As a cross country runner and swimmer throughout high school and a swimmer in college Phil has a thorough knowledge of how heavy the demands of high-level athletics can be. Currently Phil trains for strength and endurance and is hoping to have a half marathon PR come the end of the spring 2021. |
GRIFFIN SAMUELS NASM CPT Griffin Samuels is a fitness coach who holds both personal training and corrective exercise specialist certifications issued by NASM. He obtained his English Degree at Dominican college, where he also minored in Education. Shortly after graduating, He received his teaching certification for the state of New Jersey. Since the age of 17 Griffin has had a passion for health and fitness, and a desire to pass on his knowledge obtained from that passion. |
KAREEN DEJESUS CPT Kareen DeJesus is a Level 1 Sports Performance coach and Personal Trainer certified by the National Council of Strength and Fitness. She grew up in New York City where she dabbled in all sports including softball, basketball, track & field, and flag football. After high school, she went on to play Semi-Professional Women’s Tackle Football, where she played for 6 years as a Cornerback, Safety and Linebacker for the New York Sharks and New York Wolves. In 2018, she traveled to Georgia, Atlanta, winning the Division II National Championship. I n the same year, she traveled overseas to play in the Pro-Cloud Transatlantic Tournament in Birmingham, UK, winning the Gold Medal. She was previously a kickboxing coach, personal trainer and a soccer coach in Midtown Manhattan. She graduated from CUNY Lehman College as a Magna Cum Laude attaining her Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science with a concentration in Pre-Physical Therapy. At CUNY Lehman she continues to study to obtain her Masters of Science in Human Performance & Fitness. In 2018, she was invited and attended the second annual NFL’s Women’s Careers in Football Forum. Kareen has been featured on Fox 5 news, the Wendy Williams show and has carried out interviews for Ashton Kutcher’s Lupus Foundation where she vocalizes the importance of an athlete in being attentive to your body. She has trained football players around the world such as the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Brazil and endeavors to continue helping and both recreational and competitive athletes reach their highest potential and maximize their performance by way of sports training. |
GREG CHERTOK MENTAL TRAINER Greg Chertok, M.Ed., AASP-CC, is the Director of Mental Training at CourtSense. His professional interests are in developing high-level mental and physical conditioning services for athletes and high level teams. He has given seminars and workshops to coaches, parents, youth, professional athletes, Super Bowl champions, Stanley Cup participants, and Olympians. He has most recently presented at pre-NFL Combine training sessions in Chicago, the USA Hockey Coaches Convention, Bergen Community College, New York University, DAANJ (Directors of Athletics Association of New Jersey) national conference, the NJ-based Professional Sports Medicine Associates’ Annual Symposium, and sport psychology conferences at the regional and national levels. Greg has also been featured as a Sport & Exercise Psychology expert on National Public Radio (NPR), SiriusXM’s “Doctor Radio”, Healthradio’s “Sports Medicine & Fitness Show”, CaptainU radio, and Voice America’s “Enter the League”. Greg has been featured in Reuters,ESPN.com, The Wall Street Journal, CBS News, CNN.com, Runner’s World Magazine, Women’s Health Magazine, The Chicago Tribune, SportingKid Magazine, Men’s Life Today, Family Circle Magazine. He is on the Editorial Board of the American College of Sports Medicine’s Fit Society Page, and has co-authored a book geared toward youth baseball coaches entitled The Baseball Starter: A Handbook For Coaching Children and Teens. Greg is also a member of the NYC Marathon’s Psyching Team. He received his B.A. in Psychology at Tufts University and his M.Ed. in Counseling specializing in Sport & Exercise Psychology at Boston University in 2007. While at Tufts, he captained the 2006 baseball team and finished his career as an ESPN The Magazine Academic Regional All-American and a New England College All-Star. He currently co-owns and operates a youth summer sports academy called Pitch by Pitch Baseball and Sports Camps, in Congers, NY, one of the area’s larger specialty day camps that features both physical and mental skills training for 6-14 year old athletes. He is a Certified Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology as well as a Personal Fitness Trainer. |
